We love to do this Sausalito Moto Coffee Run on a cold, clear day in the winter. Wearing our warmest gear we meander along a curvy route through Berryessa and Napa before finally hitting the freeway for a short time. Next, coffee at our favorite cafe in Sausalito is a perfect midday stop to warm up. Or, if hungry the menu offers a wide range of delicious hot dishes. The best seating is outdoors at a table on the sidewalk to people watch while sipping a delicious latte or capucinno, artfully delivered by the barista.
After this delicious coffee warmup, we head south a short distance to vista points overlooking the Golden Gate Bridge. Making a loop via Field Rd from Conzelman Road to Bunker Road offers an exhilarating view of the Gulf of Farallones. It is just spectacular. Sometimes we repeat this loop a couple of times as it can be thrilling on the motorcycle. The loop passes Battery and Missile sites still standing from when the region was a part of the Presidio Army Base. If time permits Rodeo Beach and the Marine Mammal Center is a short jaunt off the loop byway of a left turn from the intersection of Field Rd and Bunker. If time is short, make a right and follow Bunker Road through the tunnel and back to 101 North and home to Sacramento.
This trip to San Francisco is full of fantastic riding and offers a laid back time of blending in with the tourists, multiple photo opportunities, conversation and relaxation in one of the most beautiful spots on earth. We leave about 9 AM from Sacramento and return about 4 in the afternoon thus completing an easy PAVED 238 mile ride before dusk. Perfect.
